Group Details
Altar Guild
The altar guild sets up the communion vessels and puts the flowers in the sanctuary each Sunday. Twice a year the altar guild gets together to clean the communion vessel. What better way to serve our Lord and church.
Choir
Zion has a long-standing tradition of fine choral music.
We currently have one mixed choir that sings music from a variety of styles, both traditional and contemporary. Although reading music is an asset, it is not a requirement to join this group of dedicated volunteer musicians.
Zion Lutheran Women (ZLW)
We are a Christ-centered community of women committed to nurturing our faith and spiritual strength to enable us to be people of God in mission. Sharing and expressing our faith in action and working towards justice and peace. We Welcome all women to our monthly meeting held usually the first Wednesday evening in the Parish Hall.
Kitchen Coordinators
The kitchen group coordinates and serves a luncheon following a person's funeral to their family and friends here in the Parish Hall.
Library
Each Sunday morning the library is opened after the worship service. It is located in the southeast corner of the Parish Hall. Staff is on hand to assist you or you may peruse the books at your leisure. There is a selection of books and videotapes for children and adults. Cassette tapes of our worship service are made available to you and/or to share with others.
Quilting Group
The quilting group meets every Monday to quilt together 60-70 quilts every year. These quilts are packaged up and sent to the Head Office in Winnipeg where they are shipped overseas through C.L.W.R. Quilts are also donated to the O.P.P. to give to accident victims, one to hospital for a needy mom and usually one is sent to a seminarian at Waterloo Lutheran Seminary. The quilters also put together baby layettes. The number of layettes sent to developing countries depends on donations from Z.L.W.
and congregational members.
Pastoral Care
The pastoral care group meet the fourth Wednesday of every month at 9:30 a.m. Our goal is to visit our sick and shut-in members. We attend and assist worship services that our pastors conduct at the city's senior residences. Following the service we stay for a visit.
Sunday School
The Sunday School proclaims the gospel message of Jesus Christ for children ages 3 -12. Each Sunday morning classes are held for approximately 1 hour after children have participated in liturgy at 10:00 a.m. worship. Our curriculum follows the common lectionary and includes God and Creation, 10 Commandments, the Holy Trinity and the life teachings of Jesus. Children learn by doing through Bible stories, song, crafts and activities.
Confirmation Classes
Confirmation classes are provided for youth who are preparing to affirm their faith in Jesus Christ and to enter into greater participation in the life of the church. The two year Confirmation Program is instructed by pastors and lay teachers.
Youth Group
Zion's youth group gathers together to have lots of fun learning about God, participating in outreach projects and making friends.
Golden Age Group
The Golden age group meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 2:30 p.m. with Bible Study, programs and pot luck suppers. In early October we have our annual fall bus tour. All seniors are welcome. Come and join us.
